British classical violinist, conductor, and professor of violin. Born 17 July 1956 in Manchester, England, UK.
He graduated from the Royal Northern College Of Music. In 1981, he was appointed as the youngest-ever Professor of Violin at the same College, a post he relinquished in 1983. He was Leader of the London Philharmonic Orchestra (1983-1986), the Britten Quartet (founder/leader 1986-1996), & the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra (1997-2000) and Concertmaster with the Orchestra Of The Royal Opera House, Covent Garden (2000-2018). Founder of the Manning Camerata. He was Music Director of Musica Vitae for three seasons (2008-2011). Artistic Director and Principal Conductor of the Bath Festival Orchestra since January 2020 and Music Director of the Mozart Kinderorchester, Salzburg since 2016.
