Blackwatch

Real name: Michael Thomas McEvoy

Effective period / Period of releases: 2000 - 2005

Quietly focused, Michael Thomas aka Blackwatch articulates his motives with a certain reserved confidence. His aim became clear with the emergence of the electronic culture in New York early 1990. During that period Michael was directly tuned to the contemporary sounds coming from the UK and Detroit underground, but it was his exposure to the early development of groups with the crossover sound such as Stone Roses, Primal Scream, and Depeche Mode that became most influential in shaping his sound today.

Coming from a strong background in classical music training, he was able to explore the subtleties of this new sound, that for years was already echoing in his imagination. After graduating high school his pursuit of a career in recording led him to the top studio in NYC - Sony Music Studios - in which he secured a position in 1994. Surrounded by legendary producers and engineers while at Sony, his ears had become fine tuned to the intricacy of sonic layering and engineering. He left Sony in 1999 to redirect all his attention back to writing, which he is still constantly refining today. From the time his first single was released in September 2000 his music and remixes have appeared on the largest record labels and CD compilations including: Perfecto, Hooj Choons, Hope, INCredible, Bedrock, Yoshitoshi, Global Underground, Kinetic, and Ministry of Sound amongst others. In one short year he has created a buzz that has placed him among the top ranks of producers/remixers worldwide and has laid down a firm foundation for the future ahead.
