Roman is often called the father of Swedish music, probably after Abraham Sahlstedt's memorial in 1767, where he was hailed as "Stamfader för Musiken i wårt land" (cit. after Ivarsdotter-Johnson: Musiken i Sverige: Johan Helmich Roman och hans tid, p. 26 ).
