George Hill

leading guitarist with the BBC Scottish Variety Orchestra, the White Heather Club, and the Joe Gordon Folk Four, and was much in demand for recording sessions. He also made world tours in concert parties with the late Scottish comedian Alec Finlay.

Born in Cowdenbeath, he started as a trumpet player with dancebands while serving in the RAF in Islay and in England, later playing with dance orchestras at the Palais, Fountainbridge, Edinburgh, and the Locarno, Glasgow.

His chief instruments are guitar and banjo, but can handle a trumpet, piano or mandolin with equal accomplishment.
