At one time he was married to singer Dee Wood Laws.
His most widely known work may be an adaptation of Johnny Marks' score for the well-known Christmas special Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer, first aired in 1964. He also composed for Frosty the Snowman and The Hobbit (1977).
