Ray Rungay

Real name: Ray Rungay

Ray Rungay is a producer for the British DJ remix service DMC Ltd. UK and lives in Kent UK. He first started practicing his DJ skills at home in his bedroom for about 2 to 3 years. Back in those days he was into Hip-Hop music and therefore was very keen to learn how to scratch, break-beat and more.

Late 80s he started as a mobile DJ and this was also when he first learnt how to beat mix. He used to do all the usual gigs like 18th - 21st - 40th & 50th birthday parties, engagement parties, retirement parties and so on. At the age of 19 he DJ’ed at his first wedding party. He drove his first car, a Ford Escort Estate which was not very trendy for a teenager, but he needed the space the car provided for storage of his decks, speakers, lights and of course his records.

His first DJ deck he built himself, using a pair of belt driven turntables and also made the flight case they sat in himself. As he was still at school at that time, he couldn’t afford vari-speed decks, so made his own vari-speed unit on each deck; to do so he bought the electronic components from a local Tandy store.

After having saved enough money, he bought a pair of Technics 1200s and a Phonic MRT60 mixer, which were great back then. At the various parties he DJ’ed, he eventually learnt his craft of mixing. Ray has approx. 20 years on and off experience being a DJ and 7 of those are as resident DJ in a bar. His last gig as a mobile DJ was in 2015.

In 1988 Ray entered a mix competition and his first ever mix was played on Dave Pearce’s Radio London show approx. 1988. He didn’t win, but was very proud to hear his mix and name being mentioned on one of the trendiest and hip radio stations of that time. To produce his mix, he used his two belt driven turntables, a mixer and tape deck.

Approx. 1988 Ray started buying DMC mixes on record and is very proud to still have kept every single record he purchased. After he stopped being a mobile DJ, he started producing mixes at home, using his computer. His first mix he produced is an 80s mix which he says is pretty rubbish and therefore will never ever be released. But he also says that everyone has to start somewhere. Since February 2021 Ray is a producer for the British DJ remix service DMC Ltd. UK. In that month his first mix was released on DMC.

Ray says he has many favourite DMC mixes, which include Les Adams ‘Luther Vandross Megamix’, Paul Dakeyne’s ‘House ‘88 Megamix’, Chad Jackson’s ‘Public Enemy ‘Louder than A Bomb’ Megamix’ and the great Sanny X’s ‘Prince Megamix’. Also, anything that’s produced by Tom Newton and Steve Anderson.

About the 2 photos at this profile Ray says the following:
“One is me proudly wearing a DMC sweatshirt that I was wearing whilst DJing at a family party approx. in 1989, and another is a up-to-date photo. With some 30 odd year’s difference when the pics were taken, I bet you can hardly notice the difference – haha!!”
