Liza Da Costa was born 26th of March 1968 in Portugal. Her mother is Portuguese while her father was born in India. They moved to Germany when she was a child. When she was 12, she started to sing, having songs by Whitney Houston in her repertoire. Her friend owned a recording studio where music for TV movies was being produced. She was also part of a female jazzgroup.

Liza, her friend Franky, Udo Niebergall and Richard Witte (the latter two being her producers) knew each other from Frankfurt (Germany). From his earlier days during his time in the army, Franky remembered that drill commands had something quite specific about them. He talked about the idea to use that for a dance tune with Udo, and they produced the first single Captain Jack with a sharp dance beat.
