American actor, songwriter, and America's most decorated combat soldier of World War II.

Died May 28, 1971 in near Catawba, Virginia, USA (plane crash)
Audie penned hits for such singers as Dean Martin, Eddy Arnold, Charley Pride and many others. He charted 3 times in the U.S., with his highest charted song being "Shutters and Boards" by Jerry Wallace (co-written by Scott Turner), which landed at #24 in 1962. Slim Whitman's cover of the song hit #26 on the country charts in 1970. Roy Clark hit #37 on the country charts with "When the Wind Blows in Chicago" (also co-written by Turner).
