American Rhythm & blues and gospel singer,. Born March 21st, 1921 in Minjo Junction, Ohio, died June 21st, 2008 in Detroit, Michigan.
Reed grew up singing in her local church choir. She was mentored by blind gospel singer Prof. Harold Boggs, before winning an audition to become the vocalist with Sonny Thompson's band. Her national hits include: "I'll Drown in My Tears" which reached #5 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1952; “Let’s Call It A Day” hit the #7 of the same chart, while “I’ll Drown in My Tears” hit #5, both in 1958. Reed was married to Sonny Thompson and recorded with him often. She also recorded often with Freddie King. She is sometimes credited as Lulu Reed.
