Olof Lindgren
Real name: Olof Sigurd Lindgren
Swedish composer, music educator, conductor, trumpeter, cornetist and violinist, born 25 October 1934 in Visby, and died 22 August 2018.He studied music at the Kungliga Musikhögskolan in Stockholm and started his musical career as a cornetist in a military band. In 1958 he became director of the music school in Tranås and remained in this position until 1975. At the same time he was conductor of the Tranås Orkesterförening and also during this time he was guest conductor of the Gävleborgs Orkesterförening (1963), the Norrköpings Orkesterförening (1963) and the Linköpings Orkesterförening. In 1975 he was appointed honorary conductor of the Tranås Orkesterförening, the SOR-s Hedersmedalj Tranås Manskör and the Hedersmedlem Tranås Ungdomsorkester.
He then became bandmaster of the Nedre Norrland military band in Östersund, and in 1979 again became director of the music school in Krokom. He remained in the latter position until 1991. From 1974 to 1977 he was conductor of the regional singers' federation Smålands Sångarförbund. From 1977 to 1999 he was conductor of the mixed choir Näskotts blandade kör. From 1979 to 1989 he was also leader of the women's choir damkören Brunkullorna, from 1982 to 1987 conductor of the youth symphony orchestra Jämtländska Ungdomsorkestern and from 1994 to 1999 of the Östersunds Orkesterförening.
As an instructor and teacher, he was affiliated with the folk high school Bäckedals folkhögskola from 1977 to 1983. He received various awards such as the Tranås kulturpris (1971), the Krokoms kulturstipendium (1985), the Olof Högbergsplaketten Norrlandsförbundets hedersbelöning (1990) and, together with Berta Magnusson, the Länstidningens kulturpris in 1991.
He arranged a large number of works from classical music for wind instruments, strings, choirs and concert orchestra. As a composer he wrote works for various genres.
