Elisabeth Schumann (13 June 1888 in Merseburg – 23 April 1952 in New York) was a German lyric soprano who sang in opera, operetta, oratorio, and lieder.
She is descended from Henrietta Sontag, a famous singer of Beethoven’s day. Richard Strauss heard her at the Metropolitan Opera House in New York and engaged her for the Vienna Government Opera House, where she appeared in 1920
