Walter Schmidt

Real name: Walter Schmidt Ballardo

Mexican multi-instrumentalist (bass, synthesizers, cello, etc.), composer and music journalist, born August 10th 1953 in Texcoco, State Of Mexico. Active mainly with electronic and experimental music projects.

He started in a rock band called Magic Anvil with Humberto Alvarez and Federico Luna playing covers, but became a proliferative musician by co-founding Decibel (2), Size (4) and Casino Shanghai along with his long-time partner Carlos Robledo.

A former music journalist in Pop and Sonido magazines —for the latter he worked as editor-in-chief for several years. He also held a radio show, Rock Marginal, broadcasted by Radio UNAM. This journalism activities, besides giving him plenty music business acquaintances, gained him fame as an important promoter of underground music in Mexico —specially European progressive rock and rock in opposition.
