He charted with the song "Back to School Again" by Timmie "Oh Yeah" Rogers in 1957, which hit #36 in the U.S. He co-wrote the Nat King Cole hit, "If You Can't Cry And Say Yes."
He was a recurring guest star on The Jackie Gleason Show for over 12 years, and would continue to work with Jackie Gleason for the next thirty years.
