Gennady Provatorov or Геннадий Проваторов (11.03.1929 - 04.05.2010) was a Russian and later Belarusian conductor, People's Artist of the RSFSR (1981), Honored Artist of Belarus, and laureate of the State prize of the Republic of Belarus. Initially he studied piano with Alexander Goldenweiser, graduating from the Moscow Conservatory in 1952. Provatorov received his second diploma in 1956 after studying conducting with Kiril Kondrashin and Alexander Gauk.

In 1962, Gennady Provatorov premiered the second version of the Lady Macbeth of the Mtsensk District opera by Dmitri Shostakovich. This recording received a Grand Prix du Disque prize in France in 1966. Since 1984, the conductor had been living and working in Belarusia. Provatorov was a head of the Belarusian SSR State Academic Theatre of Opera and Ballet (1984–89).
