Henry van Dyke

Real name: Henry Jackson van Dyke Jr.

American Presbyterian hymnwriter, poet, short story writer, pastor, professor, & ambassador.
Born November 10, 1852 Germantown, Pennsylvania, USA.
Died April 10, 1933 (aged 80) Princeton, New Jersey, USA.

In music, he is known for writing words to hymn "The Hymn of Joy" (often called "Joyful, Joyful We Adore Thee", set to the music of the "Ode to Joy" melody of the final movement of Ludwig van Beethoven's Symphony No. 9.
He was the United States Ambassador to Luxembourg and United States Ambassador to the Netherlands (1913-17).
