Kui Lee's songs captured the spirit in Hawaii in the 1960's soon after statehood. Don Ho popularized many of Kui Lee's songs, although Kui Lee also did his own recording before his untimely early death from cancer. 2000: Winner of a Nā Hōkū Hanohano Lifetime Achievement Award under the auspices of the Hawaiʻi Academy of Recording Arts.
