Czech composer (June 30, 1722, Staré Benátky, Czechia – November 6, 1795, Bad Köstritz, Saxony) of early classicism. He created a scenic melodrama as a new musical genre. In his dramatic and instrumental works, he preceded Beethoven in many things and, in the atmosphere of his work, even Romanticism. Younger brother of František Benda.
