Younger brother of Fred Waring, with whom he started a band that then grew and became one of the most popular bands of the 1920s, Fred Waring & His Pennsylvanians.
Tom Waring sang on radio and in films and concerts as was known as much for his voice as his piano playing.
As a songwriter, his most popular songs sold between 1930-1949 in the U.S., including "So Beats My Heart for You" by Earl Burtnett & His Los Angeles Biltmore Hotel Orchestra and by Fred Waring's Pennsylvanians, co-written by Pat Ballard, Charlie Henderson . He also had a hit with the song "Way Back Home" by Victor Young & His Orchestra and later by Bing Crosby and Fred Waring (co-written by Al Lewis). Other popular songs written/co-written by him include "Jonah", "Countin' My Blessings", "Desire", "Swing Me a Lullaby", "When Angels Sang of Peace", and "Leave It to Me to Remember".
