Real name: Thomas Schmitt

Classical guitarist for baroque music.
Thomas Schmitt is guitarist and musicologist. He
graduated in Guitar (honorary mention) from the Music
Conservatory in Vienna with Konrad Ragossnig and
obtained a PhD in Musicology from the University of
Mainz. In his works he relates research and music
interpretation. This zeal appears in several papers, in
recordings and editions, among which Francisco
Guerau, Poema harmónico, estudio, transcripción y
facsímil (Madrid, Alpuerto) and Fernando Ferandiere,
Thema mit 10 Variationen (Vienna, Doblinger) stand
out. Until now he has recorded three CDs, the last two
devoted to music by J. S. Bach, about which critics
have written that it is a “fascinating work and a must
for people who are interested in discovering new points
of view regarding Ancient Music” (Geluit-Luthinerie,
12/2008).
