Real name: Гершон-Ицхок Лейбович Сирота (Gershon-Yitskhok Sirota)

One of the leading cantors of Europe during the "Golden Age of Hazzanut" (cantorial music), sometimes referred to as the "Jewish Caruso" (1874 - 1943). In 1907, he was invited to take up the most prestigious position in the cantorial world: the position of chief cantor at the Tlomazke Street Synagogue in Warsaw. He spent his final years living in the Warsaw Ghetto, and died in the Warsaw Ghetto Uprising in 1943.
