Stockholms Spelmansgille was founded in 1944 in Stockholm, Sweden, when some men interested in music took the initiative for a fiddlers' meeting at Storängens Samskola in Stockholm. Over 50 musicians came to that meeting and were so successful that another meeting was planned.

After that meeting, the fiddlers' organization for the Stockholm area was formed, and since many moved to Stockholm during that time due to jobs, the organization grew very quickly. Many famous fiddlers have joined the guild over the years and many have gone on to become national fiddlers.
