El Faro

Members: Saray Salcedo, Gabriel Marrero, Carlos Díaz (8)

El Faro was born in Tenerife in 2011. Out of pure impulse, Carlos Díaz – who turned 17 the day before finishing his first demo – joined various groups while composing drafts of songs. Simple cuts that mixed immediate melodies with desolate lyrics and a sound that was reminiscent of Beat Happening, The Pastels and even the Smiths.

Two songs and a year of experience were enough for him to make his way on the national scene, signing with the Acuarela label, opening for Daniel Johnston or The Wave Pictures, and coming to defend his short repertoire on stages such as Primavera Sound. After leaving a legacy of two 7” splits loaded with a unique sensitivity, the project ceased its activity indefinitely.

It was in 2018 when, by surprise, El Faro turned on again to begin a new stage that brought with it the publication of “Ay, si un día”: a 10” mini-LP with six songs produced by Jaime Beltrán (Pájaro Jack , Sr. Chinarro, Los Planetas). Matured between 2013 and 2018, they tell a story that sounds like youth, redemption and epic. Pop as warm and eclectic as that of The War On Drugs or La Estrella de David.

“Los Años Malos”, released in digital format on February 14, 2020, was until now the latest from El Faro: a guitar hit that connected with the Spanish aristocracy of the genre, like Solera. Produced with care by Guille Mostaza, in it they explored its most heartbreaking and direct facet to result in a pre-pandemic declaration of intentions with a great emotional charge.

“Now that I have forgiven myself, where will the bad years go?” they asked themselves (in Spanish) between hypnotic guitar lines and frenetic drum beats in this cathartic bet, more electric and with more vocal risks, something like a cross between Bon Iver and Juan & Junior, but raised and blessed in the Canary Islands.

Since 2020, El Faro have shared the stage with bands such as Dorian or La Habitación Roja, performed at festivals such as the Phe Festival or Sonidos Líquidos, and were selected for the final of Movistar Rookies, in addition to stepping on the most diverse stages of the Canary Islands.

Now right entering 2024 “Una Paz Extraña” is their Brand new EP, produced by Lisandro Montes (Dorian) and Sergio Acosta (Zoé).

El Faro explore new sonic territories to make their indie essence coexist with a particular band-sound, using organic pop arrangements as a base, seasoned with reminiscences of other genres picked up along the way.

EL FARO are Carlos Díaz (vocals and guitars), Carlos Valenciano (drums), and Alejandro Pedrianes (bass).
