Xavier Vidal

French violinist.
Trained in popular music from his childhood, Xavier Vidal participated in the research and collection activities of the Occitan Conservatory of Toulouse, from 1977. He carried out ethnomusicological research work in the Lauragais region which gave rise to several publications and a diploma in ethnology from EHESS. He carried out work on bell traditions for the heritage department of the Ministry of Culture (1989) and research and publishing work on bird imitators and dance whistlers (1990). Based in the Lot from 1983, he undertook work collecting popular music in the Lot department. In 2005, the La Granja association was created in Soulomès (Lot) which launched a collection of oral tradition, thus constituting an important audiovisual fund, serving as a basis for dissemination work. Between 2011 and 2019, he was responsible for coordination and teaching within the traditional music department of the CRR of Toulouse.
