Toyo
Real name: Mario Chagnon
Effective period / Period of releases: 1988 - 1994
Canadian (Quebec) singer-songwriter-musician who had long accompanied Claude Dubois. In the mid 90’s, Toyo (real name, Mario Chagnon) teamed up with Offenbach guitarist John McGale, and as the duo McGale & Toyo (aka “John & Toyo”) they released 3 albums (“Symbiose” 1994, “Noel U.N. Plugged” 1995 and “Blood Brothers” in 1996). Before his projects with McGale, Toyo recorded and released 3 solo albums. His self-titled debut vinyl LP was released in 1988. Two years later, he released the English versions of the same melodic-rock songs under the title of “Magic” (CD only). His final solo effort, released in 1991, was another French language CD entitled “Laissez-Moi Partir”. As of 2017, his three solo titles, as well as his albums with John McGale, are all long out-of-print.
