Real name: Marshall Louis Barer

American Broadway lyricist, author, director, and cabaret performer.
Born February 19, 1923 in Astoria, New York, USA.
Died August 25, 1998 (75 years of age) in Santa Fe, New Mexico, USA.
Barer began his career as an illustrator. He wrote special material for Celeste Holm and Dwight Fiske. He was a staff lyricist and later an editor for Golden Records (2).
Beginning in the 1970s in his sixties, Barer was also a cabaret performer. His best known work may be "The Mighty Mouse Theme" aka "Here I Come to Save the Day".
He had his greatest Broadway success came in 1959 with "Once Upon a Mattress", for which he was lyricist and a book writer. Barer was nominated for Broadway's 1960 Tony Award for his lyrics and, in collaboration with Jay Thompson and Dean Fuller, the book as parts of a Best Musical nomination for "Once Upon a Mattress."
He charted once as a songwriter, in 1952 with "The Bigger the Figure" by Louis Prima & Keely Smith (co-written by Alec Wilder). The song hit #27 on the U.S. charts.
