American popular singer and actor.
Born July 9, 1927 Malden, Massachusetts, USA.
Died May 21, 2023 (aged 95) Los Angeles, California, USA.
Brother of singers Joe Ames, Vic Ames and Gene Ames.
He is best known for his Pop and Adult Contemporary hits of the 1960s. Originally part of a popular singing group of 1950s called The Ames Brothers, he is also best known to television audiences as the Native American Mingo on Daniel Boone.
He charted with his brothers 41 times in the U.S. and U.K. between 1949 and 1963, including #1 hits with "Sentimental Me" and "Rag Mop" in 1950 and "You You You" in 1953. As a solo artist, he charted 15 times in the U.S. between 1965 and 1970. He had three #1 adult contemporary hits with "My Cup Runneth Over" (#8 overall) in 1966 and "Time, Time" (#61 overall) and "When the Snow Is on the Roses" (#98 overall) in 1967.
