Taken by Winchester, the photo that adorns the cover depicts the trailing remnants of a severe thunderstorm, disturbing the halcyon sky outside his studio window on the 8th floor of a tower block in East Berlin. Composed primarily of ice, the ominous Mammatus clouds extend for miles over the concrete horizon as the wires of telegraph masts cut the discordant sky. This snapshot in time inspired Winchester's creative practice in the weeks and months in the wake of the storm, and culminated in the 8 tracks that make up the LP, his first full length solo album.Limited to a minimal set of raw materials such as metal rods, wires, discarded electronic objects, and broken transistors, Winchester captured sounds using contact microphones and electromagnetic coil pickups, and reprocessed them with modern tools to create this future-now soundworld. Although cold and stark in places, there is a distinctly dub-influenced backbone running through the album adding warmth and weight to the dystopic atmospherics. Offkilter rhythms, static bursts, celestial drones, noise, and an underpinning sub bass combine in Winchester's unique take on Futurism and Dub, illustrating his most complete body of work to date.
