Label: SMA Records

'During the period of slavery, West-Africans have been brought to Surinam (formerly Dutch-Guyana). In the course of time the members of the different tribes have amalgated into the group that's called "Creole" and their traditional religions have ultimately integrated into a new religion called WINTI.

This religion holds a unique place in America, since it has not adopted many elements from the christian religions, like the VOODOO from Haiti, the SANTERIA from Cuba, the CANDOMBLE and MACUMBA from Brazil; but a few Amer-Indian elements.

This record is a statement of survival of African culture, even after 3 centuries sacred African drums can be heard like the APINTI and the ADJIDA.

This is AKREMA calling for the Spirits!'

Live recorded 15-4 and 16-4-'81 at Ideko sound studio.

Produced for Surinam Music Association in coöperation with Akrema.
