Label: Ovum RecordingsEnigmatic Spanish producer Pascual steps up for his first release on Josh Wink's Ovum Recordings imprint, a technical treat of which it's mechanised funk belies it's raw, driving techno prowess. A newcomer to the imprint, Pascual brings the same energy and syncopation to Ovum that he displayed on releases for Plus 8, Drumcode and CLR. 'Theorem' delivers a style reminiscent of Pascual's ventures on Plus 8; hypnotic and melodic techno with a stiff backbone. Radar blips and pulsating, fluctuating bass rhythm lend the track a driving sensibility that builds up to the first drop, the pressure released by a metronomic snare offering light relief to the pace. 'Arch' kicks off with pulsing siren synths and an acid drop drum loop, offering a hazy buzz at a jacked-up pace of 105bpm. Slight sounds nuances and kinks in chords force swathes of deconstructed bass to fight their way to the fore, before those backbone synths are notched up an octave, making for a true warehouse experience. 'Coda' sounds like a continuation of the previous track - funk laced acid techno drums wrapped up in thick coatings of bass, while fidgeting, synth lines and tribal drum patterns emerge to the fore in an exercise in true hypnosis. Finally, 'Movement' brings a minimal techno flavour, underpinned by a snarling, growling wall of sub bass as subtle, dubbed out effects lurk in the endless darkness. The bass remains the focal point, lending the track a menacing, rigid feel as those eerie, echoing dub traits rise to the surface. A hazy, distorted and tripped-out excursion into the outer edges of modern techno, served up by one of Spain's most well-versed techno heroes. Huge Support from: Chris Liebing, Paco Osuna, Secret Cinema, Christian Smith, Ben Sims, Anja Schenieder and more!!!
