Tracks 1 through 9 were recorded by Al Cunningham on a quarter-inch reel-to-teel tape deck in his kitchen, in San Francisco, California, 1959. On compositions 1 through 6 Bola is playing a classical guitar brought from Brazil. On compositions 7 through 9 Bola is playing a 1959 Gibson ES-345 Thinline Semi-Hollow Electric Archtop guitar.

Tracks 10 and 11 were recorded San Francisco State College - October 3, 1974. These compositions are played on a Ramirez classical guitar, with nylon strings.

Tracks 12 through 14 were recorded by Bola at his home studio in Marin County, California, in the early 1980s. On track 14, Bola is playing a Yamaha upright piano.
