"'Rare & Unreleased' joins the dots in the Bomb The Bass years between 'Clear' and 'Future Chaos'. The link is made clear through 'Disco Bob', an unreleased Justin Warfield collaboration that proves very different to 'Bug Powder Dust, more withdrawn in execution. Similarly elusive is 'Clear Cut', fronted by Lali Puna. Several 'Future Chaos' demos are included. 'Black River' is of special interest, Mark Lanegan's intimate setting not as claustrophobic as in the final version. 'So Special' finds Paul Conboy showing hidden malice, while 'Butterfingers' is more ragged, reflecting Fujiya & Miyagi's love of Krautrock. 'Smog' is almost languid, with an evocative trumpet solo. Other gems include 'Fast', with Shawn Lee, and the percussive 'Lost Your Soul', a percussive-heavy brooder that pulls no punches. There are some fascinating discoveries and nuggets in this collection, charting Bomb The Bass and their road back to full musical fitness."
