Tap Step was recorded and mixed December, 1979-January, 1980, in Los Angeles. All tracks recorded at Love Castle Studio except A1, recorded at Ocean Way Recording Studio.
Mixed at Ocean Way Recording Studio.

Special equipment used:
Studer 24 track recorder modified by Mark Levinson, Audio Systems ML-5 2 track recorder (Studer 2 track modified by Mark Levinson), LNP-2 pre-amplifiers for recording and monitoring by Mark Levinson.
