Sanjo is considered as the best genre equipped with full of logics and school among Korean instrumental music in that it emphasizes flexibility or improvisational aspect according to the environments where is it played and who does play. Its melody is based on the folk music such as Pansori or Sinawi, a shaman ritual music. The meaning of sanjo bears "scattered melody". Therefore, a player plays melody selected from all over the folk music into one whole suite of music.
