World premiere recording of Maw's 1987 symphony. Recorded live at a concert in Birmingham Town Hall, 11 October 1990.

This recording was funded by the Arts Council; it was made in the Town Hall by permission of Birmingham City Council.

16-page booklet in the CD case includes 4-page centre section advertising the first nine releases in the EMI Classics British Composers series, of which this release is listed first. A further eight recordings are listed as due to follow in the autumn of 1991.
