Comes in a standard jewel case with a 2-page inlay that reads:------
The Rodgers and Hammerstein musical "CAROUSEL" opened on Broadway in 1945, it starred John Raitt as Billy Bigelow and Jan Clayton as Julie. Eleven years later in 1956 it was faithfully adapted into one of the most memorable musical films of all time starring Gordon MacRae and Shirley Jones.
Set in a small town on the coast of Maine in 1873 it tells the story of a down at heel Fairground Barker who marries Julie, the simple, honest girl from the local factory. Billy dies during an attempted robbery, but is granted a return to earth where he sets out to undo the wrongs of his life and give confidence to his shy unhappy daughter.
It features some of the greatest songs to emerge from the pens of the great songwriter team of Richard Rodgers and Oscar Hammerstein II; who could ever forget the time "IF I LOVED YOU", "JUNE IS BUSTIN' OUT ALL OVER", "SOLILOQUY" and of course "YOU'LL NEVER WALK ALONE".
On this recording we feature some of today's greatest musical comedy performers.
DAVE WILLETS...memorable starring roles in both "Les Miserables" and "The Phantom Of The Opera". His Pickwick album "Stages Of Love" continues to be an all time great seller.
CLAIRE MOORE...appeared opposite Dave in "Phantom" as well as appearing in "Miss Saigon" and "Les Miserables".
SU POLLARD...on this recording she displays her vocal talents singing the songs of Carrie Pipperidge. Who could forget, however, her wonderful portrayal of Peggy the chalet maid in T.V.'s "Hi De Hi".
IAN WALLACE...here singing "When The Children Are Asleep", Ian is perhaps best remembered for his unforgettable "Hippopotamus" song by Flanders and Swann entitled of course "Mud", as well as his countless appearances over many years on T.V. and radio's long running "My Music" musical quiz programme.
LINDA HIBBERD...singing arguably the best song from the show "You'll Never Walk Alone", Linda hails from the world of Opera... Glyndebourne, English National Opera and Opera North.
Although written almost fifty years ago, the music is as fresh and alive today as ever and will continue to live in the hearts of people for generations to come.
Step onto the musical Carousel and be transported to that town on the coast of Maine in 1873.
