Note from Jonathan Horwich:
The whole purpose of the 3-tape offering is preservation only. Not listening pleasure as a priority. If listening pleasure is your priority get the one tape copy off my site. That has what I think are the best songs from the three tapes.
The three tape version is un-edited and un-filtered. It is a copy of the raw master.
The first of these (historic) tapes is Clifford Jordan, surely one of the finest live recordings in jazz. It was recorded by Mapleshade Record’s owner, Pierre Sprey. It is one of my favorite “audiophile” CDs (Live At Ethel’s) — sample of one tune below. Pierre sent me the masters to duplicate for you. But I only made a few direct copies of it when I first received it. And I only put out part of the performance which I hand picked out of all three tapes. The one tape I put out (on my site) for sale as a production copy) was therefore a compilation and editing of the original three tapes.
In the interest of preserving these wonderful quality tapes (as I don’t know what will happen to the master itself once I send it back to Pierre’s estate) I will make a direct copy (copy master) of the three tapes that comprise this performance.
You will be in possession of an historic tape
