Following zig-zagging excursions to West Africa on 'Spatio-Temporel' and the 'Clé De Bras' EPs, Débruit has been seduced by Turkey on the 'Sis Sürpriz' EP. Living in a Turkish neighbourhood in East London, the fragrant local sounds gave him an appetite for traditional Turkish instrumentation. A trip to Turkey later and those sounds are tightly woven with his crooked boom-bap, resulting in sumptuous arrangements of violin-like kabak kemane and darbuka and davul drums with chopped vox and trim electronics on 'Mezdé', or the funk-juiced fusion of Zurna flutes, talkbox and flash '80s boogie synths on 'Turkish Ish'. Best of all is 'Lil Zurna', the kind of freaky outernational killer you'd half expect to discover on a Sublime Frequencies comp, or half-cut at 4am and hoovering up a bab like your life depended on it.
