Sometimes you're just compelled to do something. Nothing in your life
suggest you do it... in fact it's probably counterproductive to business
as you know it. Hours toiling behind your turntables... days spent
recording...re-playing...trying to find that perfect order. You might land
a gig. but you'll spend more on records than you actually get paid. There
is no real reason for me to have made this mix. It was a shit load of
work and is totally not in line with where and what I've been getting
paid to play. Some of it was born out of parties I did with a friend.
The rest is me filling in the blanks with new discoveries and old
favorites. You're more likely to find me playing Kelly Clarkson and Lil
Wayne than Ron Carroll and Lil Louis. and you can tell that when you
listen to this mix. I'm not the off-kilter artist who's taking you on
some journey... like it or not. I'm a peoples' DJ. I can not escape it.
This is about finding a balance in what I do in music and life, really. I
love DJing so much I'm willing to play just about anything as long as
I'm happy with the composition. At the same time, I'm at my best when
I'm playing music I like and engaged with my surroundings. I don't know
if this will be some catalyst that changes my path... somehow I doubt it.
I'm a little too far down this road to be pulling U-turns (and honestly,
if I wanted to I would have). It's simply that I worked really hard on
this and I want to share it with people. It's a piece of me for sure,
but it owes a debt to my friends as well... you know who you are. I'm
happy with how it turned out and I'm happy to share it with people, and
I hope finishing it brings me some peace, but somehow I doubt it will.
