Early Modern Infrared is a stereo combination of modified recordings of a scanning infrared camera and fragmented early modern music taken from the periods in which the subjec paintings were made.Infrared Reflectography is an examination technique for studying the underlayers of a painting with the help of a detector that is sensitive to infrared radiation. Dark materials such as charcoal absorb the infrared light while light material reflects it. Different wavelengths penetrate to different layers of the painting revealing various parts of the underlayers.
Dahaka is an Italian duo who’s research focuses on the relationship between technology and art history, translated into sound. Their interest starts from the use of damaged electronic material with electro-acoustic potential. The sonorities on which they concentrate are the microvariations inside the noises emitted by these mechanisms, lending them new artistic identity. Their approach is based on listening as creative act rather than sonic generation intended as composition.
Dahaka also manifest itself in sound installations for exhibitions, representing the inherent beauty and poetic functionality of industrial machines, that can be enjoyed in an exhibiting space or at home as background ambient music.
