DAVID BOWIE in Norway, neon permafrost, superb sound quality.alive in Oslo Monday 5 June 1978
Neon Permafrost was pressed by two worker's at PolyGram in Norway.
The vinyl was pressed in 100 copies, after this the matrix was destroyed.
The 10-15 first copies were kept by the makers and given away to friends.
Some copies were sold to the record store Electric Circus in Oslo who most likely made their own variation of the wrap around cover. This homemade cover is now known as "The world cover", how many of the copies has this cover is not known.
None of the 100 copies pressed originally came with the stamped number on the back of the cover.
The stamped number was not added by the makers and was most likely done by the one's who re-sold the vinyl. There are also other variations, at least one copy have a promo stamp on the back, this was also not added by the makers and most likely done by the one's who re-sold it.
There are far less copies who doesn't have the stamped number on the back cover than the copies who has the number.
All issues of Neon Permafrost are the same pressing regardless of which cover they have or if they have the stamped number on the back or not. What is stated in Bassman's comment regarding the jacket is wrong.
No more than 100 copies exist.
From Bassman's excellent Bowiesite: " NEON PERMAFROST Label & nr: EKEBERG RECORDS FREEZE 2001 SIDA 1 /2 Cover: wrap around insert Records: 2 LP Released: 1979 Venue: Oslo, Ekebergshallen 05.06.78. Bonus: 100 numbered copies COMMENTS: Almost the entire concert of Bowie's first ever performance in Norway! BEAUTY AND THE BEAST / TVC 15 / REBEL REBEL are missing, and STAY is only the intro of the song (then it's cut). The sound quality on this album is excellent, so it's amazing that it has never been copied or re-issued in its full length. The number of the disc is stamped on the plain white jacket, and those who say that they have un-numbered copies, just don't have the original jacket! If you should ever find this disc, it will be very expensive, but buy it anyway, because you won't regret it!"
