The players play a repeating phrase in time with each other, each phrase lasting the same length of time, forming an overall long pulse based on the sum of the individual parts and a short rhythm pulse which is continuous as long as this preliminary structure is held.
As soon as one player makes a mistake that mistake is made basis of repetition unless it is modified by a further mistake. Each player proceeds at his own rate of change. The rhythms become more complex (assuming that any mistakes made are rhythmic errors); the long pulse fragments into individual parts. All the players play at equal loudness, in a restrained and precise manner. Mistakes should not be made deliberately in an attempt to change the music according to the whim of any one individual. The music may be finished by a prearranged signal amongst the players. Duration is unspecified but a number of short performances may be more interesting than one long one.
