This single was pressed for a contest that Davy Jones ran for his new label "Davy Jones Records". The promotion was called "My Favorite Monkee". The dead wax numbers (R-908/R-909) correspond with the ones found on the 4 records pressed on this label. This was initially going to be the Monkees 3rd single (the release of which contributed to Don Kirshner getting fired). The single was withdrawn and reissued with a new B-side. However in an under-the-table agreement with Kirshner, Davy was still able to use these recordings for his label "Davy Jones Records".
While this is credited to Davy Jones, both recordings are by the Monkees. Yet the only "Monkee" on the recordings is Davy Jones.
