Includes The Bonus Episode, "Mission To The Unknown"Audio release of the soundtrack of the 1965-66 12-part story, collectively titled "The Daleks' Master Plan" (at this period in the history of the series, each episode was individually titled, rather than as a part of a larger story). Only three complete episodes of the thirteen survive on film (at the time of this recording, there were only two known). Episode 7, "The Feast of Steven," was broadcast on Christmas, 1965 and originally planned as a Z-Cars crossover. It is the only episode thought to be permanently lost, having been removed from the package of the story intended to be sold abroad to Australia (while the Doctor Who Restoration Team has speculated that "The Feast of Steven" could survive via a routine telerecording, the chances of this are slim; the ultimate fate of the other eleven episodes, which were sent to Australia for review, remains unknown). The 20-page booklet included provides cast information, production history, and additional detail on this early "Doctor Who" landmark story.
CD 1 is a hybrid disc which contains both the teaser episode, "Mission to the Unknown" (AKA "Dalek Cutaway"), and un-narrated MP3 files of the teaser, the full twelve episodes, the continuity trail, and four before / after comparison files. Also included are PDFs of the scripts for all thirteen episodes.
This CD set was the final release in a series from BBC Audiobooks, completing the missing episodes which only existed in audio recordings from Season 3, 1965-66. As has been thoroughly documented elsewhere, many episodes from the first ten seasons of Doctor Who were deleted from the BBC archives as part of the corporation's junking policy (which lasted until 1978), heavily impacting the survival of programmes from the tenures of William Hartnell and Patrick Troughton. Previous releases covering Season 3 included "Galaxy Four", "The Myth Makers", and "The Massacre" (qv).
