While Don Meredith was quarterback for the Dallas Cowboys, he also like to hang out at a country bar called The Reveller ( north of Greenville Avenue near Mockingbird in Dallas, a club which soon became Soul City). Prodded by some of his country music friends like Ray Winkler and Eddie McDuff, they popped into a local studio, and recorded two songs, and released them on their own label. It got a little airplay around Dallas but not much. Then in 1972, when Don started doing ABC Monday Night Football, one of his co-workers (from Dallas) recalled the lost single, and started ribbing him about it. The joke turned into a demand from the public and soon Dot Records had located the original and re-released it. Don claims {I Never made a whole lot of it. I got a $2.54 royalty check one year and I think that was my biggest year."
