* Original pieces, untitledDear Public Broadcaster:
Many of you have indicated the need for a disc of short pieces with definite beginnings and endings. I hope this record of "shorties" fills that need.
Side "A" is a mixture of traditional and original pieces. The new material alternates with the old on this side of the record. New material is untitled and is indicated with *'s on the jacket liner. Basic tracks are listed in one column to be easily caught by the eye. Other versions of the basic tracks are indicated in a second column, continuing on numerically. Most of these "other" versions are shorter offerings of the basic tracks. However, you will notice that some alternates have the same timings, in which case they are different musically.
Side "B" contains all new material. The first track on this side should be of special interest to public radio people. It is the 10 second ID which was used as a sound logo at the 1977 New Orleans Public Radio Conference. I hope that many of you will start to use it during station breaks. If enough use it, your station will be identified as a public radio station by its logo as well as by its place on the FM dial.
Because of the large number of tracks, forty-eight on side "A" and thirty-eight on side "B," it was impossible to give you a record with bands. To do so would have meant a disc with mostly islands and little recorded material. You have instead a continuous band with the individual tracks identified by numerical "slates."
Also, because of the quantity of material, we were unable to list complete track information on the labels. We have listed the basic tracks, but you will need to consult the jacket liner for complete listings and timings.
I hope you will find "shorties" useful in your radio and television production. Your comments and suggestions are always welcome.
