Album Info

Release Date: 1977-09

Label: Prestige

The first in a series of landmark concerts performed by Duke Ellington at Carnegie Hall.

Recorded at Carnegie Hall, New York City on January 23, 1943.
Several of the original acetates were long lost or totally unusable, so substitutions were made to reproduce every selection performed.
"Black Beauty" (track B3) and the opening movement of "Black, Brown And Beige" (Side C), until shortly after the Johnny Hodges solo in "Come Sunday," were from the closest available source, a Boston concert by the band on January 28, 1943.
