Artists

Album Info

Release Date: 1962

Label: Time Records

'Circles' (1960) for voice, harp and two percussionists on a poem by E.E. Cummings, composed by Luciano Berio. 'Frammento', by Luciano Berio, has this title only on this recording and corresponding performances. It is actually the piece 'Voix De Femme' from the 'Pieces De Chair II' (1958-59). The original version of 'Frammento' is for voice and orchestra rather than, as on this recording, for voice and piano.
Two pieces 'Aria' (1958) and 'Fontana Mix' (1958) by John Cage, performed simultaneously. 'Aria' is a vocal composition, performed here by Cathy Berberian. 'Fontana Mix' is a piece for magnetic tape, consisting of electronic tape manipulation and concrete sound material, created and realised by Cage.

The catalog number applies to the stereo version of this recording. The number for the mono version is 58003.

This exact recording was re-released in the early seventies by Mainstream. Catalog number for that is MS/5005.
