Recorded on January 29, 1974 at the home of concert pianist Saralee Halprin in Santa Monica, California. Two pianos, a three year old Steinway and a 60 year old Mason Hamlin were available. Hines recorded on the Mason Hamlin. Two Teac 3060 SL tape machines operated simultaneously to produce two master tapes. "This is not the thin, brittle close-up sound that seems to characterize so many piano recordings these days, but rather more the way a good instrument sounds under average conditions."
