Album Info

Release Date: 2011

Label: Great Beyond Recordings

• Notes from the back cover:
"Approx. running time 30 minutes. (film is 22 min. plus extra.)
Elevator are a triangle from Moncton N.B. Canada, who create and document. This short film was made entirely at home on Super 8 film by Rick White. It is painted and taped together by hand, no computers. This movie like their music shows an introspective view of their time and surroundings. The period of this film is being buried and safe within another winter, then melted into the spring of 1999."

• The film is now available to watch online via the RickWhiteArchive at Vimeo. These are the notes from that web page:
"This is a new 2014 HD transfer and edit of the original super8 film shot during 1998 - 1999 at home in Moncton New Brunswick. Its so nice to finally see it the way i had originally planned. I just had no way to properly edit what i envisioned back in 1999. A simpler edit was crudely video taped from a projection, shown once at an art exhibit and sold in small numbers on VHS tape in 2000, but much more detailed physical editing occurred in 2004 before it was all left untouched in a box for 10 years. Recently, all the approximately one minute long, fragile inked, scratched, and scotch tape spliced super8 films were re-projected and carefully shot in 720p from a screen. Then all put in place using the original detailed storyboard with Premiere Pro and finally properly synced to the stereo soundtrack.
Rick White - songs, audio recording and mix, guitar, keyboard, voice, camera, film manipulation, film and video edit.
Tara White - bass, voice, camera.
Mark Gaudet - drums, camera.
...some additional camera work by Chris Flanagan and Michelle Noble.
Its a far out trip but its also a nice memory document for us. This is what that part of our lives was.
Hope you enjoy seeing it, i think it reflects our mindset at the time quite well and i'm very proud of it as a true psychedelic film."

• A soundtrack to this film was released on Murderecords in 1998. Notes from that CD indicate:
"Recorded and mixed in Feb./March 1998 by Rick at the Xanadu. #5 was done in March 1997 at the DOMAR warehouse. Moncton N.B.
...audio collages by Rick.
The SUCH is an 8mm film directed and shot by the Elevator. A video realease [sic] will hopefully be available in autumn 1998. Until then [underlined] there is only one."

• The title was taken from Murray The K's intro to Devo's WHK Radio Concert Cleveland Ohio Halloween 1975 performance released on 'Live: The Mongoloid Years' (Rykodisc RCD 20209, 1992).

• The catalogue number doesn't appear anywhere on the physical release but was identified as "such" on their website (archived via the Wayback Machine).

• The front cover was shown colourized on their website but was black and white on at least one copy.

• While track 10 doesn't appear in the setlist, it was likely taken from the same performance as this footage from Irving Plaza in New York City during May 1999.
