Album Info

Release Date: 1974

Label: Project 3 Total Sound

This is the Discrete CD-4 (Quadradisc), true quadraphonic, release. Was also released as encoded matrix quadraphonic (SQ): Spanish Strings

Printed on label: ℗ 1974

Technical note from the liner notes: "The album was recorded -as all Project 3 albums will be- on 35 millimeter magnetic film, rather than tape. Film is thicker than tape, and so permits little if any "print-through" of sound during the time between recording and the actual mastering of the disc. Because it is also wider than tape, 35mm magnetic film is capable of storing much more sound information. Furthermore, it can pick up a wider range of dynamics which is why on this recording you'll hear the shift from full orchestra to a single flute without distortion and with perfect intimacy of sound for both. Though 35mm magnetic film is acknowledged to be the best means of recording, it is little used: it costs 15 times as much as tape."
